ARC Of the arts
This program is for students with intellectual disabilities. Classes must be arranged with the program director of the Arc of the Arts Studio in advance. Please contact the Program Manager, Jerry Slayton at (512) 476-7044 or by email at jslayton@arcofthecapitalarea.org to complete an application and begin the admission process.
DSACT members have the opportunity to receive a stipend for this program, up to three times per year. DSACT members must be enrolled with The ARC to receive the stipend, but are not required to pay DSACT registration fee UNLESS enrolling in other DSACT recreational programs. The stipend can be credited up to one class per month.
The Parks and Recreation Department offers a wide variety of programs for youth and teens, adults, and 50+/seniors at City of Austin Community Recreation Centers. Out of school programs include After School, Summer Camp, and Youth Sports. Teen programs, adaptive recreation, and 50+/senior programs are offered at select centers. Athletics and fitness, enrichment classes, and seasonal events are offered year-round. For more information, please select a center from the list below or view class information online. City of Austin Parks and Recreation programs are open to individuals living within and outside Austin city limits. Financial Aid (Spanish Financial Aid form here) is available for City of Austin residents only.
The Austin Parks and Recreation Department provides opportunities for all individuals to feel accepted, included, and welcomed to participate, play, and recreate together. Individuals interested in additional services are encouraged to request modifications to participate in our programs. Inclusion Coordinators are Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialists who can help perform assessments and develop recommendations for successful participation in all Parks and Recreation Department programs and activities. Round Rock Parks and Recreation Department strives to create equal access to recreation to enhance the quality of life for all residents. Adaptive and inclusive recreation programs include aquatics, summer camps, fitness, social activities, special needs dances, and sports. The Department may also offer support staff for individuals who would like to participate in other Round Rock Parks and Recreation programs and activities. CHILDREN'S ASSOCIATION FOR MAXIMUM POTENTIAL (CAMP)
CAMP provides year-round, recreational programming for children and adults with developmental and/or physical disabilities. CAMP's goal is to help every individual reach their maximum potential; therefore, all of the activities at CAMP are adapted to accommodate the special needs of each CAMPer, allowing them to be successful in each CAMP event. Special Olympics
Special Olympics provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community. Legacy of Hope is a group that offers free tutoring (2learn2dream), dance classes (2dance2dream), and date night/respite events (2night2dream) throughout the year, for families with children who have special needs. There are currently over 50 students participating in South Austin, Round Rock, Leander, Lakeway, and Westlake.
