About DSACT and World Down Syndrome Day
World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD) is an annual March 21 celebration and global awareness day officially observed by the United Nations since 2012. March 21 (3/21) was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome.
The theme for 2022 WDSD is inclusion.
Read about how WDSD came about on the United Nations resolution page.
DSACT encourages the Central Texas and worldwide community to help raise awareness of what Down syndrome is, what it means to have Down syndrome, and how people with Down syndrome play a vital role in our lives and communities.
Here are a few ways DSACT recognized WDSD this year:
We delivered educational kits about Down syndrome to 35 schools across Central Texas. These kits will help build acceptance, inclusion, and knowledge about Down syndrome in our schools and community.
DSACT staff and families saw the premiere of "What's Done is Done" and meet producer Michael Parks Randa and actor Zack Gottsagen at SXSW on March 15. "What's Done is Done," by Delta Spirit, is the first music video starring actors with Down syndrome.
We awarded two $500 stipends to DSACT families to attend the 2022 NDSC Convention, an amazing opportunity to meet families from across the US and world, and learn valuable information about the latest Down syndrome news and research.
The teen group had a blast at Playland Skate Center! The adult group meets March 27.
We gifted a registration to the Massachusetts Down Syndrome Congress Annual Conference from March 26-27.
The Baby Talk and Inkdots groups have their March meetup from 2-4pm at Ramsey Park on March 27.
Join us at the 2022 Cocktail Bash on March 31! Adults with Down syndrome are invited to attend for free; tickets are $100 until March 29. Additional details are here.
